GoKo, short for Go Kosher, is a regional Kosher supermarket with 2 branches in the east of London. Known for stocking the largest selection of Kosher food and household goods in their area, they are constantly listening to feedback to ensure they are providing the products and services demanded by their customers. To expand their selection and ensure that their customers can get everything they need under one roof GoKo partnered with a few high-quality local suppliers to provide specialty items. 

Several years ago GoKo Supermarket started offering local delivery service taking orders manually, mainly by phone.  To keep pace with growing customer demand and to improve service they needed a more efficient, less time-consuming ecommerce option that would allow them to expand with their business.

Although they had all but chosen another ecommerce software supplier, when GoKo learned about the SAAS Grocery solution they decided to take a closer look. Project and go-live for online ordering and delivery service

After only a bit more than three months GoKo’s brand new online shop was ready to go online – and just two months later it did! GoKo launched their website in the Summer of 2018 allowing customers to order more than 3,000 Kosher products 24/7 online with their preferred device.  Orders are delivered at customer selected times.  Customers are pleased with GoKo’s rapid response times; orders placed before midnight are delivered from afternoon to evening of the next-day.  They also use a UK-wide delivery service which will ship within 24 hours of an online order.

Their new website met their ecommerce needs as well as being a perfect stage to present their two existing local Kosher supermarkets. SAAS Grocery’s integrated content management system, CMS Light, gave GoKo the tools they needed to manage all their marketing content to promote their stores and unique services.

Pick & Pack process

Picking and packing for GoKo Supermarket’s online delivery occurs in one of their existing stores using SAAS Grocery’s unique algorithm-driven Wave Picking.  Using Wave Picking performance of up to 800 items per hour per picker is routinely reached as all items for all customers of a delivery cycle are picked simultaneously. This is a vast improvement over typical hourly batch pick rates of 140 items.  Fresh Kosher food from external specialty suppliers, e.g. butchers or bakeries, is ordered automatically overnight by the SAAS Grocery Back-Office and delivered just-in-time to GoKo. Customer specific packing takes place in a dedicated packing area within the store.  To reduce errors and damage packers receive detailed instructions describing packing sequence and into which bag or box items for each order are to be placed.

Delivery services

GoKo uses their own vans for London area deliveries. To optimize routes and minimize distances GoKo uses a route planning system interfaced with SAAS Grocery. Using the Back-Office GoKo can define delivery days and time windows based on postal codes. SAAS Grocery analyzed the UK’s postal code logic to develop nationwide delivery which is automatically and efficiently provided by external carriers.

Integration of POS and payment systems

To avoid having to re-input product data GoKo opted for integration with their POS system. By using real-time integration all prices and availability are always up-to-date in the online shop saving time and avoiding errors.

To facilitate credit card payments used by online customers SAAS Grocery incorporated payment services through Barclays’, one of the UK’s leading payment processors. SAAS Grocery developed a solution to keep this process smooth and efficient by accommodating delivery bills that differ from the order price due to fresh food requiring weighing in order to obtain an actual price.
